I was at Secret Recipe One Utama a few days ago fur lunch. While waiting for my Sarawak Laksa I played around with my Olympus mju840.
I chose a seat with a good view of the entrance and clicked away. It wasn't much fun; but the sugar container caught my attention, so I shot it to death.
Focusing on and off the packets of sugar reminded me of a story told by one of my lecturers in PPP UITM Shah Alam, Mrs. Mariam. She taught us Learning Skills. We were 19 then.
She told us she had students who got so used to saying shit for everything, especially as an exclamation mark that she insisted they replace it with sugar.
"Whenever you feel a shit coming, say sugar!" she would remind them time and again.
Her students obeyed and it worked out well. People were saying sugar most of the time. It sort of replaced all the shit during her class.
This helps her control her sessions because she encouraged a lot of interaction and conversations in class and having less shit to deal with was certainly good for her advanced age. She also goes for medical examinations on a regular basis and once in a while her weight would raise concern. Naturally, the doctor told her to cut down on fattening food, salt and sugar intake.
"The doctor told me to take less sugar in my coffee" she explained to the class one day and one of the students cheekily asked "white or brown m'am?"
Needless to say, everyone burst into laughter.
She gave out a big grin.
Ah, Mrs. Mariam, how we loved our British lecturer, or was she American...
Mr. William White, or Bill White as we called him was Amecican though. He taught us literature.
Hmm, that makes Mrs. Mariam the brown sugar then. Oh heck, I'm so full of shit.
